The Purity Challenge, Week 2

So many things in the media today challenge the purity of our hearts and mind. We are told that it's okay to gossip. The media tells us that it's okay to tell a "small" lie to get what we want. Songs, movies, books... the list goes on.

We should strive to be pure, and that starts with the condition of our hearts. We can't rely on feelings, because feelings change all of the time. The media tell us to live for the moment, and to do what makes us feel good.

If we want to have a pure heart, we have to watch what we put into our minds. We can also be an example to those around us by being careful about what we allow ourselves to see and hear, and encouraging our friends to do the same.

For me, purity isn't simply about what I do with my body. It's a mindset. Yes, saving yourself for marriage is VERY important. But purity is also about how we act, how we dress, and what we think.

I've committed to purity. It's a personal commitment to God and my future husband to save myself for him. And it's also a commitment to not be flirty or dress inappropriately or have lustful thoughts about anyone. It means that I'm not going to date a guy just to say I have a boyfriend. It means that when I do decide to date someone, I'm going to avoid compromising situations. I know that God is always with me, watching me, and I have promised Him to stay pure.

Matthew 5:8- "Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God."

Philippians 4:8- "Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable --if anything is excellent or praiseworthy-- think about such things."

2 Timothy 2:22- "Flee the evil desires of youth, and pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace, along with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart."
