Book Review -- Outlive Your Life

Outlive Your Life by Max Lucado is a beautifully written book with a great message. This book reminds us that even “common” people can make a difference.

We learn that we have to open our eyes to what is going on around us. We have to be willing to help others, and not be content in our own little worlds where everything is perfect. We can’t forget what the main goal is, and we have to be willing to work with others even when we don’t completely agree with them. Even when faced with persecution, and even though people may not see what we do, we are to stand up for those who have less than us, no matter their race, gender, or social status. Jesus said in Matthew 25 that whenever we serve someone else, we are serving Him.
But no matter what we do for others, we should never forget the God was right there with us, showing us the way. We can’t do this on our own. We have to learn to pray before doing anything else, and more than anything else.

I liked how he used the story of Ananias and Saul. Ananias had heard the stories of what Saul had been doing to the Christians, and yet he obeyed God and was willing to help Saul. I loved this book, and I think it is a good reminder that we should always be praying and be willing to serve others.
